$500 DJ Makes Wedding Day a Living Nightmare

Unfortunately becoming way too common. This is such a sad story...

In a nutshell: The DJ they met at a Bridal Show never showed up for their wedding.
As I often say, there are many different DJ types in the world. This is the absolute worst. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and try to see the good in people. With a situation like this, it's very tough. In this circumstance, you have a company who obviously invested in their business by renting a pricey booth at a local Bridal Show, likely having a display, equipment, business cards & marketing materials etc. Then to entice potential clients, they offered a rate that was unbeatable, a $500 Wedding Reception.

After spending untold thousands (often TENS of thousands) on a dress to wear once, catering, venue, flowers (that will die in 24 hrs), limousine rides etc... It's tempting to jump at a $500 deal like that.

In the grand scheme of things though, after all the financial investment and planning and attention to detail has gone into this one day, a whopping 4 or 5 hours of it will be spent with the DJ you choose. $500 is a disproportionate amount to trust that someone will do a good job, will cater to your tastes, will be jovial and friendly to your guests and above all, WILL SHOW UP.

It's quite the gamble to let a $20,000 investment 'ride' on a $500 investment. I'm not saying that every $500 DJ is a bad person. On the contrary, I think that most DJs want to be affordable for their clients. At some point though, after investing thousands in equipment, music, insurance, and countless hours into planning and preparing for an event, unfortunately some poor planning business-people (using the term loosely here) simply cannot afford to stay in business.  They may be able to do a handful of Weddings before it hits home, but when they're out of business, it's over.

That's when a couples biggest day of their lives becomes a living nightmare, a $1500 DJ looks like a steal.
