Is insurance really important for a DJ to have?

We can all agree, that shopping around for a DJ can be frustrating. As the owner of a DJ company, I fully recognize the vast sea of options. There are many price points, levels of experience, and of course everyone has their own "style" of presenting a wedding or other important event. One factor that you may not have considered important, is insurance.

"Why should I care if my DJ has insurance?"
1. A DJ/DJ Company who is uninsured, likely isn't serious about their business, how serious will they be about your important event?
2. If a low-rate DJ's messy wires trip a guest, or worse, a speaker falls on a guest and the DJ isn't insured, you create a potential liability for yourself, having hired this person to perform at your event.
3. If a DJ damages the venue property in any way, who will the venue hold responsible for the damage? For this reason, some venues allow only insured DJs, and some even require the DJ to add the venue directly to their policy for that date.

There are plenty of horror stories around the web. Admittedly, some are likely exaggerated by insurance companies... But I've heard of one couple who's honeymoon was interrupted by news of a lawsuit. That's just awful.

As a general rule of thumb, most professional and reliable Mobile Disc Jockeys do carry some form of liability insurance. CNY Select DJs carries a one million dollar policy (2,000,000 aggregate) for the protection of your guests, and the venue. We're also glad to add your venue directly to our policy for the date of your event, and provide proof. :)
